  2. The rest or most of New Zealand is in cities like Wellington, Christchurch and Hamilton or in other places.
  3. Round about four hundred years before Christopher Columbus and the rest of Europe oh they where worried about falling off the edge of the world or something so that is why they voyaged to other islands any way Maori people voyaged thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean in canoes and became the first people on the beautiful island of Aotearoa (New Zealand).

  1. Kia ora Ewan,

It's great to see that you've had time to post your first official activity blog for the Winter Learning Journey programme.

I really like the way that you have written each fact as a separate line and numbered them from 1-3. This makes it really easy for me to read each fact and understand it. Nicely done!

Like you, I find it incredible to think that over three quarters of the New Zealand population lives in the north island. It must be very quiet down south...

Speaking of the south, have you ever been down to the south island? My son, Aronui, is actually in the south this week visiting his family in Christchurch. He drove down with his dad and is supposed to fly back on Friday. Apparently the weather is really cold and snowy down south so I'm a bit worried that his plane will be cancelled. Fingers crossed that everything runs on time and no flights are cancelled!

I know that Aronui is really keen to come back because he wants to join me and blog with students this holiday. He loves reading blog posts and will often sit down and write his own responses to people. He's only 7 so he's still learning but it's nice to have his 'help.'

I hope that you will continue to blog with us over the next few weeks. I'm sure that Aronui would love to read your posts and comment:)

    Cheers,
    Rachel
